my first blog post

hello world. it is i, claire.renee.designs. that's not my real name. but if you thought i was going to disclose my personal information like first name last name, then i am NOT a true student of the internet generation. do i still p*rate the keira knightly version of pride and prejudice when it leaves netflix and jeopardize the safety and security of my hard drive just to maniacally rewatch *that* hand scene? duh. but first name last name on a public post to the internet is just one step too far.

i want to make this post to introduce myself (amid great fanfare and massive applause from the internet community, i must add). as IF. as of now, i am anonymous, a figment of the dark web who just wants a space to express myself in a way that feels more creative than ranting to my man over instagram dm.

so who am i? who is this mysterious figure behind the keyboard? here are ten facts about me that might craft the figure of the enigmatic author of this blog.

1. i am going back to school for interior design. in london! i have no clue if i'll be good at it, but the thought of drenching myself in measuring the legroom for a chintz couch makes my skin prickle in delight.

2. i love maximalism but shudder at the thought of dusting all of the knickknacks populating the shelves of a country cottage. thus, i dub myself a practical maximalist

3. i love to cook and eat. and not in an annoying way. more of a "chopping this onion is the only way i will stop doom scrolling on npr" kind of way. oh, and plating with cute serving ware #design

4. i love to thrift. and not in an annoying way (because i am never annoying, obviously). what once started as a quirky way to show up to high school in a flannel from someone's dead relative quickly spiraled into a "i would rather sit on the bare floor than purchase a new sofa" kind of way.

5. pickled things. all of them. fermented. yes.

6. i had strange interests growing up which have deeply, deeply impacted my life trajectory. no, not what you're probably thinking. could you have predicated my obsession with "this old house"? or the geraldine mcewan adaptation of the miss marple series? maybe? just a little? am i that predictable?

7. ever a bookworm, i share book recommendations with my 83 year old grandma. we have a book club consisting of two (2). me and her. it's always been that way, and will probably keep being that way. and that's exactly how i like it.

8. i am getting married (!!!!) in the end of september. and i am obsessed with my man. like obsessed. if you know me, you know he is me but better. although he doesn't like sushi so at least i can mantain some sense of individuality.

9. writing in all lowercase just seems to speak to my tone of voice? and i probably will continue the blog in this fashion. so sorry to all the english majors reading (all of you! i'm looking at you! and wishing i was cool enough to be one of you!) #jealousyunlocked

10. i am interested in so many things it's an insecurity. i have flitted from one career path to the other, from one major in college to the other, and finally from one country to another. so if you think this page is going to have any sort of cohesive, polished tone, think again. but i like it that way! and knowing this page is just for me so far makes it feel like slapping all of this on a free website legitimizes my flighty nature.

before you ask, no, i am not planning on buying a domain with real american dollars until i get big. if you want to donate to the #domainfund, my venmo is open. but no promises that that money won't go to buying another decorative pottery dish that i certainly don't need from the thrift store. or my wooden decoy duck collection.

okay. first blog done. i'm gonna go have some soup and finish my crossword.
